Currently, I am working as an intern with the New Mexico Department of Health. My role as an intern has given me the opportunity to learn more about data organization and analysis through work with recent Title V Needs Assessment survey data. I have had the opportunity to create outreach materials for a variety of recipients, including extensive reports for regional council members, flyers for mothers, pregnant people, and providers, and other reports and presentations that can be used in a wide manner of ways.

I am also working as a medical assistant in Torrance, CA at a private clinic mostly caring for Japanese immigrants and their families. This role has given me the opportunity to improve my Japanese language skills and has provided a significant amount of insight into the healthcare field. My current role requires confidentiality, timeliness, and efficiency as I manage provider schedules, and facilitate communication between patients, pharmacies, physicians, and insurance companies. I am also proficient in taking patient vitals, as well as doing EKGs and various in-house testing.

During the upcoming academic year, I plan to continue my work as a medical assistant and will take on the role of teaching assistant for the disability studies program. The responsibilities of this role involve leading discussion for 19 individual students as they learn more disability studies. I will work to help students improve their writing techniques and critical thinking skills to prepare them for future research in their various fields.
